Moving to Norway

Here are some tips and reccomendations for what you should know before moving to Norway.

In this section we would like to give a roadmap of required documents and applications needed for moving to Mo i Rana, Norway.

Resident permit

The exact circumstances for how to move to Norway will depend on your country of citizenship (find more information here), but essentially you will need to apply for either family immigration, work immigration, study, au pair, and permanent residence.

Working permit

If you are moving for work purposes and depending on your country of citizenship, you may have to find work before coming to Norway. In some other case, you can apply for job after having move to Norway.

Diploma registration

If you are planning to work in Norway, you should be aware that there is a list of regulated professions, depending on your country of citizenship. In some cases, you will need to apply for the recognition of your professional qualifications through the  NOKUT (Norwegian Assistance Centre for the recognition of professional qualifications). Driving License validation

If you obtained your driving license from a non-EU/EEA country, you will have to verify that it is in compliance with the Norwegian agreements on road traffic laws. You can learn more here:

Tax System

In Norway income tax is automatically deducted from your paycheck and paid to the tax office by your employer. In order for the tax office and the employer to know how much tax you need to pay, you will need to apply for a digital tax deduction card.

Housing

If you are interested in renting a home you can find renting possibilities in local Facebook groups or on our Housing portal.
Homeownership is however quite common in Norway and highly encouraged through the tax system. There are several realtors in Mo i Rana that can help you;

Schools and kindergarten

If you have children you need to contact the local school directly and inform them that they will get another pupil.  More information on which school will be closest to your knew home can be found at;
